Stranger Danger

Each week I receive reports from the Local Authority that there have been incidents in the County involving strangers, possibly talking to children or even offering lifts. While the reports tend to involve secondary aged children and are from the Stroud or Cheltenham/Gloucester districts, sometimes they involve primary aged children in the Tewkesbury area. Whenever there has been a concern within the Town area I remind the children directly that day or have sent a note home – this I will continue to do. However, messages are coming through so frequently from distant parts of the County that I have a worry that warnings will either lose their impact or could possibly cause excessive worry. We clearly want the children to be safe and never to go off with, or get into conversation with, strangers. So please could you underline the obvious warnings to your child/ren, so that all will be safe at all times and not be unnecessarily panicked into being too frightened? I will not over-react by notifying you of incidents that are in other areas of the County. I hope that this will be a balanced response to the regular reports from the Local Authority. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or concerns over this.

Harvest Festival

A reminder that Harvest Festival is to be held in Holy Trinity Church on Friday at 9.15 a.m. The children are asked to bring into school Harvest food items on Thursday or Friday which can be presented and then sold after school to help raise money for charity work with children. We hope to see you on Friday. Children in the Reception classes who do not attend morning sessions at the moment are welcome to join the classes for the service and then go home with parents afterwards.

PTFA Disco

A reminder that the first Disco for Years 1 – 6 will be this Friday from 6 – 7.30 p.m. Forms will come home today.

In-service training day 2

A reminder that on Friday 9th October the school will be closed to pupils as it is the first day of the Mop Fair. The car park will be staffed by the PTFA for Fair parking on Friday and Saturday.

CAT Tests for Year 5s

The children completed a Cognitive Abilities Test in school today which has been sent to the Local Authority for marking. All Year 5s in Gloucestershire complete these. The results will be returned to school for the next Parents’ Evening for you to see. After you have chosen and been allocated a secondary school for your child next year these scores will be sent to them to help create mixed ability groupings.

Mayor’s Charity

There will be a Fashion Show in aid of the Charity in the Watson Hall on Friday 2nd October from 7 p.m. Entrance £5. Details in the entrance hall.

Healthy snacks

We hope that all of the children will bring healthy snacks to school for breaktimes – we strongly encourage fruit rather than crisps. The children in Key Stage 2 can buy fruit snacks every Friday at breaktimes for 10p.
