3rd October 2007.
Dear Parents
You will be aware that a child was knocked off her bike outside the gates while riding to school this week. This incident has been reported to the police and we are monitoring the entrances to school each day either with staff on foot or using our CCTV cameras. We hope that every parent will want to avoid driving into Chance Street and Rope Walk without police or school staff being on duty as clearly everyone should want to make sure that all the children are able to walk or cycle to school in safety. The police have asked to be kept informed and we will update them on progress. Even if you are late or the weather is bad please do not take the option of bringing your car into the roads near the school as every single extra car adds danger to the children at the most crowded, busy times of the day. Free tickets for Cascades car park can be collected from the school office. Please use them.
The Mop Fair will be in Tewkesbury on Tuesday and Wednesday next week and this means that Chance Street will be used as a main road with much more traffic than usual. The car park along Station Street behind Morrisons should be a safe option for parking on Tuesday for school. Please take extra care on the roads near school - Betty Ealand, School Crossing Patrol on Barton Street is ill at the moment and Mrs. Brokenshire has agreed to supervise the crossing in her absence. Unfortunately, she cannot be there every day so please remind your children to be extra vigilant if they have to cross Barton Street.
The Harvest Festival last Friday was very well attended and the sale at the end of school raised £380. This is double the normal amount and was due to many people's generosity by making extra donations towards the rescue equipment appeal. Thank you.
The PTFA and staff will be opening the school car park during the Mop Fair from 5.30 - 11 p.m. each day for £2 which will go towards their funds. This will be supervised car parking on the school car park and infant grassed area. If any businesses wish to use our car park during the days of the Fair between 7 and 5.30 p.m. please contact the school (£5 per car per day)
Free Fruit Week. The school is buying fruit all this week to give to the children in Key Stage 2 to encourage them to eat it at breaktimes for their snack. Next week we hope that all the children in Key Stage 2 will want to bring fruit to eat instead of their less healthy snacks. Our aim is for all children to eat as healthily as possible and to show them that fruit is a really tasty option. If you would like to support us in this please could you send your child with fruit for their snack? There will be a 10p sale of fruit of Fridays as usual.
There will be a non-uniform day on Friday this week to raise money for the rescue equipment needed by the Fire Service in times of flooding. The inflatable stretcher will cost £1127 and we are hoping to raise as much as we can towards it. The theme of the day is Superheroes to remind us of how much work was done by so many special people when the floods were at their worst. If the children are unable to find something suitable to wear for this it does not matter at all - anything non-uniform will be fine. As usual we will 'fine' all staff and children 50p for the privilege but we hope that many people will feel able to donate more that 50p as the money is all being used for such a good cause.
School is closed next Wednesday for in-service training. This is the second training day of the year.
Volunteers for gardening this Saturday morning between 9.30 and 12 noon -please sign up on the list in the entrance hall. This will help us clear the debris left by the flooding of the children's school garden. See you there!
The Winter menu begins on Monday @ £1.70 per day and brown bag lunches will cease. Check it out - there are some super new meals available.
There are no school swimming lessons at all next week due to Cascades being closed for the Mop Fair.
Yours sincerely
A.W.Holt.
Head Teacher.
