Dear Parents
Congratulations to Steve Fisher after being nominated as Gloucestershire's P.E. Teacher of the Year. Cameras will be filming him 'in action' this week and there will be a presentation ceremony at a later date. Well done!
Swimming voluntary payments are now due for the time leading up to Christmas. As noted before, the cost will be kept at £6. Please use the tear off slip on the pink letter coming home today.
We have already received 20 Christmas Child shoe boxes from the children; the final date when the lorries leave for distant lands is a week on Friday (9th November).
Mad Science Club is due to start next Monday: I will send exact details of start & finish times when I know them. 48 children have signed up for the club and there may have to be a waiting list if the Company cannot cope with the full number; I await confirmation.
Please send in photograph orders by Thursday November 8th (a week Thursday) so that we can ensure that they will be back in good time before Christmas. Any later than this will have to be sent separately to the photographer.
If you have recently changed your contact home phone or mobile number or moved house please could you check with the office to see if we have your most up-to-date details?
The Education Welfare Officer now visits the school weekly, checking registers and notes for lateness. There is a drive to reduce the number of children who are often late being delivered to and collected after school as well as repeated absences.
Three nominations have been received for the vacant position as Parent Governor. There will be an election for the vacancy on Friday 9th November between 7 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Each candidate was asked to write a 50 word 'manifesto' which is transcribed below. After reading them and deciding who to vote for, please use the Voting Forms which will be available from the office for the secret ballot on 9th November. Good luck to all.
Eve Buchanan.
Hi I'm Eve Buchanan, I'm married with two children and work part time in retail. I have been a parent helper for almost two years and enjoy it very much. As a parent governor I will voice any concerns parents have and give something back to the school my children and I enjoy being part of.
Dan Knight.
I have two children at the school and feel that it is the best in the area, and would love to be part of the team that helps maintain the school's high standards and achievements, also to help ensure that it keeps being a school that parents and children alike can be proud to say they have or their children have attended. I am of a management background and hope I would be able to bring many attributers with me to achieve this. My current position as operations manager includes: recruitment, budgeting, staff training, purchasing and legislation to name just a few of my responsibilities.
Christine Lochhead.
I have a child in Year 1, am a parent helper and PTFA member. I am practical, honest and conscientious; a confident communicator, pro-active and look at issues from a wider perspective. I am a Customs Investigation officer on career break, a parish councillor and have been Chairperson of a local playgroup.
