Dear Parents 19th December 2007.
The excitement levels are rising as we head towards the end of term. Today the children have been enjoying Christmas Lunch and had great fun being entertained while they ate, followed by a film in the Hall. Congratulations to Sonja Wray and her hard working team who managed to produce 400 meals, serve them and clear up by 1.30 p.m!
Following the brief appearances on BBC Countryfile last Sunday this is followed today by BBC Radio Gloucestershire who will be recording the thoughts and hopes of the children who have been most affected by the floods last July. They plan to broadcast on Drive Time tomorrow between 5 & 7 p.m.
Reception children have already been to the Pantomime, Aladdin, at the Roses Theatre earlier in the week and everyone else will be walking there on Thursday from 1 p.m. Thank you to all volunteers who are able to walk to and fro with the children. As it will be dark by then please can you collect your child from school at 4.15 p.m. so that you/we know that they will get home safely? If your child is walking home alone, please remind them about traffic and road crossing, and if possible, let us know – our Road Crossing Patrol on Chance Street has offered to be on duty between 4.15 and 4.30 p.m. to help. A couple of points on safety, please avoid driving cars into Rope Walk as this will create a potentially dangerous situation with over 300 children and parents having to thread their way through queues of cars (the school car park will be closed) and also do not collect from the Theatre as in the darkness after the show we need to know where all the children are all the time and will walk them straight back to school after the Show. Thank you.
On the last day of term there will be a PTFA Christmas children’s Disco here at school – earlier than usual – from 6 – 7.30 p.m. and a Disco note is accompanying this newsletter. Reception children are welcome but parents are advised to stay for a while to see how they cope with the noise and excitement! A group of PTFA members, accompanied by Mr. Holland on accordion, will be setting out at 7 p.m. on a tour of the local pubs to sing Carols and collect money for funds. If you meet them, please give generously! If you are able to help at either (or both) events, please volunteer on Friday.
The final assembly for Key Stage One children and parents is Thursday at 9.30 a.m. (doors open at 9.15 a.m.) and it will be led by the Reception children in a performance of Stable Story. The Key Stage Two final assembly for parents is on Friday at 1.30 p.m. (doors open at 1.15 p.m.). School will close for the Christmas holiday at 2.30 p.m. and the new term will begin at 8.50 a.m. on Monday 7th January 2008.
We will be saying Au Revoir to Mrs. C. Hulls, Special Needs Teacher, who will be taking maternity leave in the New Year. We wish her well and look forward to her news. Mrs. S. Meadows will be covering the post in her absence.
Activ8 club starts again on Tuesday lunchtimes from 15th January for Years 3 – 6. New members welcome.
We are looking again for a Relief Midday Supervisor to assist at lunchtimes to cover staff absence. If interested, please contact the school office.
At the end of a long and busy school year, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, peaceful New Year.
